biographical info
the Subterraneans formed in 2003, when Jay & Jon the Bassist met at a lakeside jam in Burlington, ON. The two instantly clicked and began jamming frequently, occasionally plugging together some original songs. They soon assembled a modest home studio, recording & releasing their independent 'Busride EP' in 2006. In 2007 the bands numbers swelled, with the addition of both Dave Reed & David Abbey, on Keys & Drums respectively. This added a completely new dimension to the group, who had up to this point been mainly acoustic-based. In 2010, Jon left the group & Jess Stone (Satisfied Customers) joined on Bass in his stead.
The past five years has seen the Subterraneans playing Hamilton's Pepper Jack Café (rip), Folkin' Blues' annual 'Lose Yer Shoes' Festival, Come Together Music Festival, as well as sharing the stage with acts such as Marco Benevento, Col. Bruce Hampton, Dinner Belles, Sunparlour Players, the DoneFors, Ghost Bees & more. The band has one full-length release, This Sinking Ship, which was recorded & produced entirely independently and featured local Hamilton musicians, Sam Klass, Tarek Ajak (Peak Soil, Unidentified Funky Objects) & Aerin Ellison on Guitar, Sax/Flute & trumpet respectively.
