biographical info
Special Purpose started out as an idea, you know? Borne out of boredom of riding his bike across the prairies while listening to CBC R3 podcasts in the summer of 2006, Martin Eckart decided that a band could be formed out of a couple dance mats, game controllers and a laptop. Later on he also figured out that this small equipment group would actually be able to tour on their bicycles. So, in the winter of 2007, joined by Dave, Mel, Melanie and Molly, Special Purpose was formed: Dancers drumming with their feet and synth players with their thumbs.
The Extra Superübercool, Special Purpose Increditour is began in July of 2007 and saw the members cycle their way from Vancouver BC all the way back to their homes in the Guelph, Hamilton and Toronto region by the end of August.
