biographical info
Social Divide is a four-piece all original roots rock band from Ottawa put together 2011. The band’s original music reflects a wide variety of influences, touching on blues, country, folk and funk. The songs are driven by two guitars, anchored by a solid drum and bass rhythm section, and the plaintiff to growling vocals bring home the emotional immediacy and resoluteness of the songs. The band’s lyrics are informed by a strong sense of justice and a belief that, through music, light can be shed on a better path forward. In short, Social Divide keeps the traditions of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seger alive while moving people to think – and dance.
Social Divide has recorded three songs at Bearbrook Studio in Ottawa and plans to release an independent recording later in 2012. The three recordings can currently be heard as demos at myspace.com/socialdivide. The band has already started headlining. Its first show was at the Elmdale Tavern in December 2011 and another show booked at the same venue for March. The band is currently seeking other gigs around the Ottawa area, Eastern Ontario, and Western Quebec.
