biographical info
Shoot The Cameraman. Their sound is melody driven americana rock with a healthy dose of harmonies. Combining elements of rockabilly, folk, pop, and country, their live show is a multi-dimensional experience their forefathers would be proud of.
Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter Darcy Windover leads the group with his emotive voice and guitar style. On drums and vocals Dave Chan provides creative rhythms and a solid foundation for the group while Bassist Anthony Sandler lends energetic and melodic bass lines. Added to the band in 2009 was Keyboardist/Vocalist Robert Sills, whose strong vocals and tasteful comping are the perfect compliment to the band’s poignant arrangements. Rounding out the ensemble is newly added multi-instrumentalist Dustin Olyan, who creates a bona fide country atmosphere on the guitar and pedal and lap steel.
Shoot The Cameraman has spent the last three years molding their identity through gigging and extensive rehearsal. Three appearances at the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto have helped pave the way for higher profile gigs; such as a tribute to the late, great Jay Bennett of Wilco fame. Shoot The Cameraman’s dualistic song repertoire leads to unpredictable live performances. Windover’s creative output is abundant, and each show brings new material for the audience, even as older material evolves due to the bands relentless drive to perfect their sound.
The Wreckage is Shoot the Cameraman’s first full-length LP. Released on December 11th, 2010, The Wreckage captures the energy of their live show as well as the duality in their songwriting. With upbeat and aggressive songs such as the title track, “The Wreckage”, and the psycho-billy-esque “Such a Fad” sharing space with harmony-laden and soulful tracks like “Still Blind” and “Carve a Hole”, Shoot The Cameraman shows their range on their first offering. Brad Wheeler of the Globe and Mail points out "the record’s classic songwriting, towering cosmic-country sounds and a wily sense of come-with-me dynamics".
Shoot The Cameraman are indebted to the past and anticipating the near future. They are poised to play bigger shows, record more songs and solidify a spot in Toronto’s energetic americana music scene.
