Selina Martin is a Toronto-based artist who has forged her own brand of pop by melding rock, new wave, punk, singer/songwriter, and dance, always with intelligent lyrics and always making it her own. Many of Canada’s most respected music writers have highly praised her work, including multiple accolades in the Globe and Mail.
She began writing songs at the age of 10 and started performing her own material in her early 20’s. In 1995 she began touring as sideman and opening act to Bob Wiseman. Since then she has released three critically acclaimed solo recordings, and has also collaborated and recorded with many respected Canadian musical artists including Wiseman, Amelia Curran, Justin Rutledge, Dave Bidini, Martin Tielli, Rheostatics, Veda Hille, and has an ongoing project with the experimental electronic band Faceless Forces of Bigness (Michael Phillip Wojewoda, Chris Stringer, Kurt Swinghammer, Justin Stephenson).
She has toured across Canada, the US and Europe. Her third full length and much-lauded recording, Disaster Fantasies is a fierce collection of genre-defying tunes and was independently released on CD and vinyl across Canada in 2010. It has received glowing praise from across the country, and has been variously described by music writers as “smart”, “vivid”, “brave”, “masterful”, “reckless”, and “must-hear”.
