biographical info
Born in Nairobi Kenya, from Ugandan parents, SUM-01 and her 5 siblings
fled Africa due to civil war that took place in Uganda. Raised in
London, Ontario Canada and constantly immersed in the musical sounds of
African music and dance, SUM-01 grew up enriched in culture. From the
age of 8 she was accepted into a performing arts elementary school
where her love for music, drama, art and dance flourished.
By
high school she attended an Arts and Technology based school, and
continued on with music, art, drama and dance. By grade 10 she took
another path and started to take her poetry and turn them into songs,
starting to rebel a little and was jumping into battles and ciphers at
lunch hour, skipping class and acting out.
After graduating
she took her newfound love of emceeing to Toronto for a couple years
where she pursued a small career in Hip Hop while still trying to
complete a year in College for Graphic Design. Unsuccessful in either
attempt, she took a long break from music, moved back to her hometown,
became a mother and finally graduated from college.
Three years
later, SUM-01 the entrepreneur slash mother slash MC is back from her
hiatus, and plans to use Hip Hop music to empower and educate the new
generations of today. You can keep up to date on her myspace page with
