Roddy Bailey - Bio by Roddy Bailey - I was born in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada in 1974 - I could read before kindergarten, or so they tell me. - I collected comics and had 5 paper routes to support my habit. - I also collected records starting at age 8. - I was the shortest person in the eighth grade. - I used to skateboard 30 blocks across Brandon every day to hang out with my friends. - I got the highest marks in Math at my high school every year I was there, and got a nifty plaque to prove it. - I bought a bass guitar off a guy names Justin in grade 10 and started writing punk songs. - I started a rap group with my friends Tyler and Pat in grade 12 and we called ourselves “Farm Fresh” - I went to the University of Manitoba and got a degree in electrical engineering. - I started producing rap groups and founded Peanuts & Corn in 1994. I hand dubbed thousands of cassettes one painstaking minute at a time and sold them for 5 bucks each. - I have worked as a pizza cook, swimming pool water tester, record store clerk, telecommunications engineer, systems verification engineer, record label owner, mastering engineer, production assistant and assistant director (so far). - I called myself “mcenroe” in 1997 and released “the ethics ep”, then “the convenience ep”. In 2005 I released “disenfranchised” and people really liked it. - My hardcore rap fans are going to be really disappointed with this record because I don’t rap on it. They think I have lost my mind - they may be right. - I make my living in the film business now and am not counting on this record to feed my family, so that takes the pressure off. - I wrote, recorded, played all instruments, produced, mixed and mastered this record. I photographed and designed the cover art, and directed the videos for it too. I designed my website, peanutsandcorn.com, and when people buy stuff from the site I pack it up and ship it out. - I don’t know what genre this record is. I used hip-hop production techniques but its pop-style songs with a dark undertone and my voice is a little different. There is guitar on there, so is it pop/rock? I don’t know, sorry. I play the melodica on it alot but I don’t think its dub. - I called myself “Roddy Bailey” on this because mcenroe is my rap name, and I’m not rapping. I didn’t want to create confusion or put a sticker on the releases that says “I’m not rapping on this!” - I haven’t released a record on P&C in a couple of years so I don’t know if I still have a distribution deal. It’s all good either way, really.
