Weirdo Toronto based pop trio Rattail is the concoction of singer/guitarist Jasmyn Burke and her oddball counterparts Timy Fag (bass) and Jesse Frank Matthews (drums). Starting as a folksy solo project, the full band formed in 2009, recording tunes in Matthews’ basement and releasing the George Mounsey EP on Unfamiliar Records in the Summer of 2010. Quickly toping best of critics lists and gaining recognition for their entertaining live shows, the band suddenly went through a line-up change, but quickly bounced back ready to work on new songs with a new bandmate.
With a year of national touring and intermittent releases of bizarre J FM created music videos, Rattail has garnered a unique interest in their strange visuals, Jasmyn’s jangly distinct vocals and the bands gritty yet playful sound. “’Basic Buildings’ is the unexpected stop-gap in your Toronto playlist; the sound of indie new and old, deep roots, new flair,” Toronto Life. Pushing the boundaries of ramshackle slack-rock, Rattail is set to release their debut LP in January 2012 and is ready to see where more debauchery with take them.
