biographical info
Out of the foggy banks of Yarmouh, Nova Scotia, Rain Over St. Ambrose returns with Truth For News, a record full of rock n' roll guitars, sing-along choruses and dagger-sharp wit.
The album – their debut full-length – paints a colourful portrait of youthful, up-and-coming band writing with the confidence and experience of an old soul. Already masters of the “big epic chorus” (Bob Mersereau) and “power-pop anthems” (The Broken Speaker), Rain Over St. Ambrose continues to build on their history of energetic brand of engaging “true Canadian music” (Exclaim!).
From the opening riffs of the album’s first track, “Debate,” to the driving four-on-the-floor cadence of“Tambourine,” and the buzzsaw guitars of the band’s single, “Walking Home,” Truth For Newspulsates with charismatic hooks and contemplative lyrics.
Recently voted Best New Band by The Coast’s Best of Readers Music Poll, Rain Over St. Ambrose has captivated the attention of critics and fans throughout the Maritimes in a relatively short span of time. Over the last two years, the band has showcased at the East Coast Music Awards, Nova Scotia Music Week, Canadian Music Week, and the Halifax Pop Explosion all while garnering praise from for their last release, an EP titled Overton Window.
This year, the band was nominated for four Music Nova Scotia Awards including New Artist Of The Year, Rock Recording of the Year, and Group Recording of the Year (both for Overton Window).
