Hello!!

I'll start with a good Canadian greeting and talk about the weather..."It was a beautiful Spring day here today... How bout you?"

Also wanted to say , we plan on doing a new cd. !! If all goes well. We have many new songs waiting to be sealed into plastic..

Last night we got together and what a great time it was...It always is and never is there enough music time...we love it. And SO...

We want to share it with you.

The snow ,hardened by the spring winds ,lay neglected on the ground.  The grey mass of sky covered the woods like a blanket of silence. All seemed still, no movement to be seen. The fire's orange glow , the only contrast in colors in a day of quiet slumber.

The minstrel pulled out his instrument and gently placed it in to position. Gracefully the silence was broken . A small, but mesmerizing sound. It continued...the beautiful melody,  mixing as if in harmony with the greyed atmosphere.  A comforting energy. And the minstrel played, sound floating up into the grey, creating a painting in the sky.

Good morning! And it is a great morning in Canuk land!!

We are working on new material...and have decided to work from singles...easy and economical!! So it will be fun to be back in the studio again!

No shortage of new material...just keep on writing them there songs...

We ordered some of CBC's merch , cause we appreciate CBC radio, and really, there merch is great!

Well there is just something about this time of year...something in the air. It makes you want to give and the good feelings, inspite of the business is something you just breathe in.!

It is great to see people buying from the artists, so many amazingly talented people, creating! j

It's a time to let go of all the worries, and enjoy the festive mood!!

I know that we are feeling this way!

Our band is working on new material and starting with the process after all the merry making.

I love being in the music. It's a great place to be!

Good eve...when you listen to the music, try to respect the artists, and all the super hard work and dedication it takes to be one. When you've got labels buying up all the air time, the competition, which is sometimes just made up of clout and money, not good taste, all competing for the same space....it's hard to be an artist.

Maybe this year, buy some cd's , out of respect of the arts and all the toil it takes to create for you. Or , hire a local band, and pay them well. Be good to your artists, they are what keep the world beautiful, and full of new ideas.

Good morning! I am happy to say, I am warm even though it is rapidly getting cold where I am.. I actually made a wood fire this morn, with the coffee, .. The last 2 days I have been downloading and listening to Derek Sivers great talks on why do we do what we do, plus tips on how to improve our buisness plans.

 Derek is very bright and has some great advice.

First off, what are you pursueing, he says, FAME, MONEY, LEAVING A LEGACY, FREEDOM??

Know , and be honest with yourself, and stay on track to what ever you are pursueing.

Derek, has met many musicians that just wanted to be a rock star in their 20's made it, were famouse and now 35, and miserable...because they were now just keeping the machine going but had" been there done that "sortof thing...

Money if that is your goal , then, Derek says, you will be a more behind the scene's person, crunching numbers, instead of out there, being famous..Not that the two couldn't meet ..

Leaving a legacy...? I think for me , a bit this is true,, I do want my music /art to carry on when I am gone from this life...so as not to leave you empty..

Freedom, a big topic, is what Derek chose, and taking it from a guy who has had all the other 3, perhaps it is worth thinking about. Freedom of state, mind, body, soul...what makes FREE. Can you be free, inspite of world events, lack of funds, being a "no-where-man"? What in the end constitutes FREE. It's a word that catches our attention...if something is FREE! Hey!! We say, "It's FREE!!"

Free to do whatever you want is Derek's freedom.

I think freedom is a free soul. It has to start in the center of us. I think freedom is expensive, but very valuable.

Derek also mentioned great buisness tips, keep your plan simple, the main thing the main thing..(these are my words)

Having good ideas, is great but until you actually act upon them, they are worth only a cup of coffee....

Be personable, BE THERE for people....answer the phone...

So many good things to think about, and I thank you Derek ! for the great videos. I appreciate you!

And I appreciate YOU! and Thank you for reading my blog. I hope I can be all that I am meant to be...and help you and others in some way.

Good morning!! and so in Canada, it IS! So nice to see Mr. Sunshine...shining on my shoulders....hmmmm makes me happy.....Gee, I should write a song about that......

Well my garden is taking off, and so it is good to eat such great vegies....

We submitted a song to a movie about a stalker...they responded back, which he said he doesn't usually do, and said the song was pretty, but just not exactly right. I probably don't sound stalkereyish enough...But HEY! what fun to enter the world of the imagination! We are also working on a few more songs to submit to another movie, soon.

So on we go! Well , better get back to working on my art courses...class coming up soon! Painting up a storm! No that's not the right word....sunny...that's a good word...

Good morning!! Hope  the sun doth shine on you this day! The weather is definately going through menopause....

Lately, we have been contacted by some interest in the states to collaborate on a song or two...something new for us....

This is a slow season musically for our band as the ebb and flow of life takes us, so we are thinking it would be fun to try some new musical endeavor...

I'll let you know how things progress.

Other than that, I have written some new music in drop D and slide as well. Slide is alot of fun...new groove sound for me..

I pack my guitar around on errands and work on the new stuff...

Good Morning world!!!

After a busy Canada Day around these parts all is back to semi-normal as everyone scurries back to work or play....

Speaking of playing I have been playing around with the slide guitar sound, I like it.. and have been writing some new music this way...it is alot fun, and the songs keep coming , lately....

Good evening...well yeah it's actually pretty late...but I just wanted to tell you how rewarding it is to create!

My students in my art classes are greatly improving....it is exciting to see such young minds developing their skills.  It also motivates me to paint more once again and I've  missed that world.

I have also been writing new music, and the band is supposed to come over tomorrow.

It is always fun to start the collaboration on new material. Songs create themselves through playing them...it's a beautiful experience.

I love my life , love the art and beauty one can create.!

Good morning to you! It has been a while and I hope you are super fine today!

To support my music habit, I have been teaching art to children. It is good for me to be painting again and inspiring young minds as well!! Art is great for the mind and so valuable to the whole of society. It teaches you to think and create, and adds a richness to life!

And so the music as well !! I have been mulling over in the back of my mind the music we want to work on next . Last night I felt inspired and now know which direction the sound will take.! I am looking forward to it! It will be the esence of zest. I want to capture. Freedom, love beyond obsticles. It will be a great feeling making this music.

On a different note, the birds here have been amazing!! Western tanangers...have you seen them?? Full of colour , amazing to see...like a parrot! I guess a sence of tropical in the bush!!

Well better get! Gotta go teach creativity to unstimulated minds!

Good Morning! I have been moving from the meduim of paint to music lately...both inspire me. I also have been learning more about the History of European Art. It is facinating to me as I study different artists and their work and how it depicts our culture today.

Where we've come from, where we are going...It has been said, and I quote"Art is important, something that when properly seen and considered and felt, can change our lives for the better."

Art should never be underestimated, but in every culture valued. It civilizes us.

 I'm working on a painting  I have recently started. It feels so good to paint ! Creating is living!

I was working on some new  music material , yesterday, and plan to start to get it in written form for the band, as we are excited to start working in the studio , once again!

Spring is a time of new beginnings.  I am thankful for this day and looking forward to the future!

Good morning!! I hope you are well!! I saw quite a sight this morning...a large bird, I think a hawk or an owl came after a small junco and swooped it, knocking it down, stunned for a while till it flew away...wow, nature is amazing!

We have ideas to create some new sounds...we hooked the Lesley speaker up in a certain way...There are so many ways you can go in music...

Well HELLO!!

We have been busily working on the last of our cd to send it off, into the atmosphere...No really we are almost done with details.!!!  Life gets in the way of the things we really want to do ....sometimes....but it makes for better song-writing....anyways!!

The next band is really fun to have around...I have learned how to work a slide guitar....I am learning alot from these guys....

Making lots of home-made food....pizza, cinnimin buns...brownies.....It's lots of music and good times....

Next practise we record my last song...to tag it onto the cd. I am happy, after all, to squeeze it  on there.

I am a grateful human....

Well Good morning and wow what lovely weather we are having!

We played the mixed music to the band the other night. We all added our 2 cents..then I played one of my new songs for the guys and Michael's girlfreind said "Oh you have to put that on this next cd!!" I want to buy cd's for all the people I know!!"

So...we are going to record one more song.....for the road.....

I finished the lyrics yesterday and worked on a painting I have decided not to use for our cover art ...so will start on a new one today...!!

There is another band waiting for the studio. So we are almost there.....I CAN"T WAIT!!!!

I am really happy with what we have created!!

Well as we are working on finishing our next cd project...which I love, we have already been working on our next one after this one!! "comprende'????" Anyways life is never really always so orderly is it! All those things that take place in between making your music..!!

We are also going to be hosting some really talented unknown musicians and helping them record ect...all the many things this kind of talent ropes us into....We are truly looking forward to them coming and will enjoy jamming with them as well....Just add a little more water to the soup.....

Hello Everyone!!

Well today I sang at a Ladies Tea, Brunch thing..I don't persay, go to these myself on a volunteer basis...don't know what's wrong with me... just start to figit....anyways, everyone was dressed very well and behaved like their clothes..

Maybe that's why when I was eating the chopped up , small diced potatoes, that one piece, the one with the chunk of pepper on it got stuck right at the back of my throat and I started to cough, and cough, and cough some more.....

You're not supposed to do such things at these such places...you're wrecking the "ombience"... my dear... I eventually excused myself and escaped to the bathroom to finish my coughing expedition, to my satisfaction.....

When I emerged , and it was time to sing, I wasn't really feeling the vibes of being one here, ...however, music is it's own unifier, and I found in the end a much needed friendly reception, and after all , hearts can warm up, as one, given time...

So , all in all, it was a lovely afternoon, and I ended up chatting with many actually wonderful people ,in the end....one can get along with the other sort, ....really, they're not so different , after all!

Sure am loving it in the country!! One of the awesome things about it is the ability to play music long and loud....AND NOBODY CARES!!!

I am excited as some very talented musicians are coming to stay with us for a while and record their stuff...!! It will be much fun!!!!!

Getting our project finished first is priority!!

I may work with them on some music together for fun. We'll see!

Good Morning!!

It is a beautiful morning here! The sun is out and I love the sun!! I've been listening to the news and wondering about famous, powerful people...

Seems once you get to a certain level of notoriety, you can really loose perspective..forget that your gifts and talents are there for others, to make this world a better place...not fight for your own agenda.

I don't know but as I climb music mountain, I want to use persausion to help my fellow man, not dwell in my own orbit of me.

Man I'm like a little kid , so excited about finishing this next cd!! We worked on layering vocals last night...I loved doing that. Singing freely to myself!!Literally!

I am wanting to rush, but the guys say to be patient as rushing the fine details is not good!!

So I will work on writing some new material as it helps my creative perspective to have an outlet!!

Got a nice fire generating warmth and the snow is gently falling and it's a great day to be an artist...!!!!!!

My neighbour and I are going in on gardening together next spring....lucky me as she is a pro at it and I am just learning....fresh vegetables are a good thing!!

From what I see in the news Vancouver is alive and well! Except for the warmer weather I think people are having a pretty nice time!

We are busy in the studio, working,,, finishing our beautiful project. Sometimes great things are created in the details...

I am also exploring new sounds and finding myself writing new material, even though I thought I wanted a break!! Ha. Creativity runs free!!

Well I am heading to the store to look for a good multigrain flour...I want to bake some bread for supper. I love to cook!!

Good Morning!!

Last night Ray put some beautiful violin parts in one of our upcoming songs....We have mixed a few of our songs , ready for sending off for mastering....

Our hope was to be finished before "Olympic times" however, we just couldn't release this one without our best efforts first.

Our last cd we played "live in the studio" and left it that way , but we are taking pride in producing this one...

It is really hard to wait , but we feel it is important to send out a very fine job.

So...the guys are coming back again tonight to hit it again...mostly it's the fine details left . The candy...

That was a really fun night....I was working all day to get everything ready and make a big dinner for the Norway News...just found out that they actually are all over the UK....which is WOW an honor to be featured!!

I was pretty darn tired when it was all done but super happy to have had the opportunity to serve Norway....We wanted to make them very welcome and hopefully show them some good ol' Canadian hospitality...!!!!!!

We really enjoyed their visit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well better go ...got lots to do.....the band comes over tomorrow night so I have to finish some of my parts for our almost completed cd......I am SOOOOOOOOOOO excited to release our new music!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello! Good morning! Hope you are fed and feeling well!!

We have been playing some of our mixed songs over and over, trying to get the recipie just right. It has been enjoyable work and we are truly happy about the music we are about to release...!!

Nothing worth some-thing ever comes easy.....

Ray has been coming over to work on his extra parts, ie  harmonies...

I have been playing around with a slide guitar sound....using a salt shaker that had a small enough hole to stay on my finger.....slides are hard to find in these parts of the woods.....

I am going to maybe use the sound for the next song I wrote , kindof bluesy....

So we keep on keepin on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning everyone!!! It is a beautiful day here in the snow. We had a magical snow fall the last few days. The snow covers all the trees and the colors of winter are soft and quiet. Very beautiful! Specially with the wood heat crackling away!!!

I/We the band have been thinking about  mastering our final product, as we are just completing our recordings for our next cd. We have in past used a studio in Vancouver with a very good rep. and cost of mastering equals that rep.!  But are wondering if our ears and equiptment are comparable...

Sometimes the tiny sounds that I love in a recording get dulled out in the process of mixing and mastering...so I guess I can see why some musicians work the whole process out themselves...

Perhaps I am rambling...(rambling without a saddle...) but these are thoughts worth thinking as we near the end of this beautiful project!!

I'll let you know what happens!!

Well tonight we recorded some of the last of the songs we've been working on for the next cd. (One of my favourites)....

Ray called and said "Hey Rach, you make your home made bread and I'll bring a big pot of beans!!!" ... I was thinking "Ray , do you really think that's a good idea?"...but I didn't have the heart to say anything so a nice bottle of "Beano" on the table and away we go....The beans were great ....

One of the songs we were working on tonight we totally changed for the better. I played it sortof folk rocky, but sang bluesy so we changed the drums and my strumming and found it much nicer as an all round blues song... much easier on the ears..

Well it's off to bed and what a great day it has been.

I am getting excited as we near the completion of our next cd!!

Well , I thought I would make a comment on Marketing...since we musicians are usually weak in this area...(I know I am)

Seth Godin's comments left me thinking...He states that to play in todays market you have to be quick, changing constantly, trying new things, like new food even, otherwise broadening your perspectives...TAKE RISKS...Kindof reminded me of the movie I watched, called "The Yes Man" with Jim Cerry..

I think taking risks is good, if you are using some intelligence in the process...it can't hurt to try new foods, music, ect..learning is unveiling mysteries...

Working quickly is not something I like so much...feels a bit neroutic...no not errotic...just restless....

As an artist, I need some focus...things that make me happy sometimes take me to a place of stillness. Then I can create....

I agree and love the idea of staying authentic...and that to me is peaceful. There are lots of successful ventures that "sell-out" but I can't say that it is making them happy, or that the people in these success stories are experiencing love.....

Small is the new Big is great with me, as I have heard of artists that had to have more..more.. and found in the striving they lost the joy of being an artist!!

Just some thoughts....from me to you!!!!

We are thinking , due to the time crunch, and the challenge it is to make good ,music and not jepardize it's value, that we may just go digital. Otherwise, place songs individually on the website, so that we can move forward. Making a cd is a great adventure , and can't be rushed. It is a lot of effort for a small package!!

To do the art  justice we will for now put the completed songs on our website soon. The one that is especially important right now is called "Pictures" It is one that will be used in the Norway clips for the Olympics.

That song actually came to me at 4:00 in the morn . one time. I needed a song for people that suffer. It was actually for the Cancer society. So the whole song came to me way too early in the morn. I had to force myself out of bed, go to the piano, and get the song out of my head. I have a small recorder that works wonders for just such an occasion. So I recorded it roughly, words and all and went back to bed. !!! But the song is for others. I love people.  And I love it when our music can help some one else get through the hard times....cause life just has them....

Anyways... enough for now...am heading to bed...soft pillow...nice.....

Well Hello!!

We are working now at finishing our next cd... before one of the songs that will be on our next cd is aired in Norway via. the Olypmics!!

We're back at it and loving the music...this week it's practice at 6:00 am ....that's a.m.  like am I crazy to be up at this hour??????

He everyone!!

Well we were back as a band again last night , we all missed each other, and playing and creating great music!!

There are moments in a band, when life and experiences stretch you, like an atom, like, dna,...is this atom going to combust!?? Is it strong...does time pull its particles apart?? But alas, it lasts....love lasts...through all the evolution of time...

love is that secret ingredient. that chemical that is undefiable..love lasts....and so does great music..!!!!!

Well we hosted the Norweigen Broadcasting Team last night. We served them beef dip, salads. and wine. They enjoyed their dinner. Then we the Trio, performed a few of our songs for them and then created some scary music for one of their film clips, and also our version of" If I were a Rich Man" . only it was revised to "If I lived in Richmond.".....for another of their clips....Ha! It was fun and interesting to create music sounds right on the spot for them.  We all had a very nice time together, and now we will be viewed in Norway for the 2010 Olypics!!  They said they have 1, million viewers...   Nice!!

Well back to the day job ......gotta run.............with coffee..................

Hello Norway and everyone!!

We are very pleased to be asked to use some of our music for a few of your films on Canada, as well as the Olympics!! We hope you can catch us in your homes at some point!! as we are to be interviewed by some of your broadcasting crew.

Well HellO!!

Been working in the studio, you know songs have such a metamorphasis....this one song for example, we started it so differently when I wrote it..full of energy ...it has changed so much that we are putting it aside for a while so we can have fresh ears...You can loose perspective in all the sound after a while....Others, however, come so easy....

As soon as we finish this album, we have a bunch more to record and I am looking forward to that!!

Life would be so simple, if all we had to produce was the music!!

Oh Michael got stuck in a huge storm and the ferry had to cancel his continued journies...so he's heading to other shore's but hey! There is so much to see in this big beautiful world!!

Hello Everybody!!

Well we have been working on the final touches of our new  cd. The Best of Zest was done totally live. organic sounding. We are working at adding a few "candy" sounds to this next cd. and are enjoying the creativity. There are some really beautiful sounds happening.. I am enjoying this cd. very much!!

In between turkey dinner invites and work we have really happily worked on this next project. Michael is still in France and missing us. Can't wait to get back as a band again and make some more beautiful music...

Hi Everyone!

We have had some great exchanges lately. we finished a theme song for a client and it went over very well.  It's a great feeling when every bodies happy!!!!!!!!!!!

We have also met up with a great consultant who is advising us very well. 

Micheal is heading for France tomorrow. We will miss him .... We'll be watering his plants and  working on the songs we have  already recorded for our next cd.  til he returns..

A lot of songs are  coming to me lately....

I dreamt I was visiting with John Lennon.  We were hitting it off real well ... then he wanted me to open a song for them. So there were the Beatles waiting for me to perform and I couldn't for the life of me remember what the chords were to my songs......I was fumbling around and John was looking at me sort of painfully ...."Come on, I want you to play..." and I was fumbling....

 I woke up and went over all my songs....Whew!! I did know my chords and songs just fine......

Okay!! I'm ready to play now!!!

Well anyways...

Lately, on breaks from work I pull out my guitar and play. It energizes me. allows me to be what I REALLY am and sometimes I start to compose something new. 

I've meant this to be just a personal thing but it's starting to develop into something communal. I try to find a lonely place to play, then people show up. They comment on how they like the music, wish they could play..some stand around and pet their dogs talking to others while you "entertain" them.... one guy plays too, so he was eager to play my guitar, talking to me, ended up playing Bach on guitar, till my break was over......

I think I'm starting a new personal study of human behavior with the buskor....

  Yesterday, I packed my lunch, packed my guitar, and headed out the door for work...It was going to be another hot , sunny day! I had a 45 minute break time! 45 minuets to me-self!! I headed down to the riverside. It was early morn so the sun felt good on my back. I parked my car and pulled out my trusty guitar and found a lonely bench, overlooking the green and calm river . A deer was leisurely crossing the bank, while a duck family swam. I sat down and played in this beautiful atmosphere. Looking down , like I was on top of the world. I felt inspired by this beauty and started to compose another song, energized to carry on for the rest of my work day! 

Some-times it's life's little moments that keep us in good vibe with the universe.

 We do so many things today, as musicians...and yet, honestly, there is no better place to go, for a musician, then into the music.... so energizing. We've been working on a project for a client, real upbeat sound, the studio can get a little sweaty ...don't know if it's the heat or the beat..but still. feels good. 

Hope you are keeping cool ......I've been hanging out in the blow up pool....keep that baby full and ..it's all good.

Well Hello!

We are working on the making of Vol 2. and looking forward to completing this album by September. We also have a fellow who is very talented and wants to make a video of us also by September, He is away in Colorado right now but will be back before  Micheal takes his trip to Argentina. We will keep you posted on that as it would be fun to play for you live....sortof....

lately I have had a creative drive to write some more music...maybe a little different angle on things...needing to create something new....!!

Busy with so many things...but always thinking of you!

We all crawled into "The great Pumkin" as we call Michael's Honda with the big sticker's on it "Rachel Walker Trio".. and headed down to Vancouver to hear some great info for bands.....We had a great time and found out some directional info... we are very greatful! The trip was fun too, but my knees were kindof sore from being restrained to one position for so many hours...................!!!!!!!!!

We have lots of great things ahead of us!!!!!!!!!!!

Well we have been busy recording Vol. 2 and really having a great time doing so!! Kindof got the kinks out now and things are running smoothly!

Many of my favourite songs are coming on this cd we are working on so I am excited about it!

We should be out with it in the fall , if all goes well!!

Well, we got up at 5:oo, put the coffee on and all went into the studio and recorded one of the songs that is close to my heart. "Pictures"  I got that song in the middle of the night one time...!!

We played it live in the studio several times and decided we had it.....I am going to sing this song at Relay for Life as I wrote it for them!

We finished recording, made breakfast and all went off to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well we are happily back into the studio recording Vol 2 of Best of Zest!! We are enjoying this time as we have had some of these songs under our belt for some time now.  I am already thinking of writing some new  songs/ new sounds  that we can put on the next cd.... Can't wait to share these with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well we begin recording once again tomorrow night...!!! We love it! We usually record live in studio, fresher that way! Some of these songs we will be working on are my favourites and so I am  indeed excited to begin!!

Hey There!!

We just finished playing for a wonderful cause , a Children's Telethone. It was a good time had by all and we helped to raise some monies for a good cause.. pretty cold weather to pack the gear in but all went well. We ,the band, are looking forward to playing more gigs in the future!!

Today I do not say, "Be cool" , I say "Be warm!"
