biographical info
Born to a family of 6 in the warm and tropical southern lands of the state of Chiapas, Mexico. Quique started at the age of 4, singing at his family reunions. His eagerness to sing would bring him to his neighbours' doors to perform the chorus of songs his non-musician mother taught him, even though he could barely pronounce the words. At the age of 6, in a crowded restaurant and accompanied by the house's six-piece Mariachi band, he performed a full version of "El Rey" for the first time in front of an audience. Since then, he discovered the thrill of entertaining others and the joy of performing.
Today he is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter based in the city of Toronto, Canada. His music and voice come out of his heart in a dynamic, emotional, passionate form. He has come a long way discovering, defining his sound and the purpose of his music.
In spite of the distance from his homeland and his people, he still remains very attached to his roots, culturally and musically influenced, and very much inclined to support through his music diverse social causes such as; human and civil rights, immigration reform, global conservation, anti-racism, discrimination and other political issues.
He feels very grateful for having music in his life and for the chance to share his message beyond borders through a fusion of Latin American beats such as bolero, chachacha, huapango, cumbia, with spices of rock, reggae, pop, and jazz. He is currently preparing for his debut album to be released and recorded live by CBC at Lula Lounge on January 12th 2012.
