Primes, at it's core, are Tanya Pea and JJD; two
artist-musicians who started working together in 2005 after over ten
years of history in both the electronic rave and post-punk scenes in
Vancouver, Canada. To date they have released two full lengths, "
s/t" in 2005 (under a different line-up) and 2007's "
Facades and Pink Forms".
These recordings reveal a trajectory of the band's progress, starting
out from their noisy synth-punk roots to a broader sound incorporating
the schools of rave, post-punk, industrial, IDM, and even pop music.
Books
read, newspapers headlines absorbed, music blaring, billboards endured,
people experienced; then disassembled, remade, recorded, performed.
Performance... Their live show is high energy, sweat, live video
projections (custom-built for each track by Primes),
and back-to-back execution of their material much like a DJ set.
Sometimes their live show is augmented by a third member, often the
contributions of Erik West (The Weekend Warrior).
Primes
relocated to London UK in early 2008 and have begun to drop their live
show in the city's music venues. Shortly after their arrival they
released "Psychwolf", a 4-track EP of psychedelic drone-based ambience, revealing another ego.
Currently
the band is booking live shows, working on new material and remixes, as
well as preparing a release of remixes of tracks from "Facades and Pink Forms" by such artists as Monty Luke (Mothership), Ricardo Almeida (Summer Lovers Unlimited), Hrdvsion (Wagon Repair), and more.
