What if Montreal moved to Vancouver? What if that vibey, electric Franco-Gallic, North American city decided to pick up and set up home on the West coast; in that laid-back, ultra-natural, beach-mountain blended, smoke-up city that is Vancouver? Paradise? Pilgrims of the Mind’s Stéphane Novak gives that scenario an emphatic, relaxed “yeah, baby.” It’s a pipe-dream that the Montréal native, now Vancouver resident, wishes would come true. While waiting for that moment to happen, he does his part, blending sounds, feels and influences from both: A 70’s era-Montreal disco-funk-dust coupled with a Vancouver beach-spliffing, mountain-top-echo-tripping that results in house and downtempo that loves to luxuriate in a beat-driven outer-space.
