Parallels is Cameron Findlay (Drummer, Composer, Producer) and Holly Dodson (Vocalist, Keyboardist, Composer, Producer) . Hailing from Toronto Canada, Parallels is quickly building a loyal following since their formation in October 2008.
Cam Findlay is the former drummer of Canadian Electro group, Crystal Castles. While on tour in 2007-08, Findlay spent much of his free time recording demos of what would later become the foundation of Parallels' current repertoire. In 2008, Cam emailed Holly Dodson the partially-finished songs he had been working on at which point sparked their co-writing partnership that led to the completion their first single "Ultralight". Findlay returned to Toronto at the end of Crystal Castles' 2008 tour and turned his main focus to the formation of Parallels. Dodson and Findlay continued to write more material, releasing "Ultralight" as a part of a 5-song digital EP on iTunes later that year.
Holly Dodson is the daughter of Juno award-winning singer-songwriter, Rich Dodson, a key member of world-famous Canadian Classic Rock band, The Stampeders and composer of ‘70's classic, "Sweet City Woman". Holly completed 8 Grades of Royal Conservatory piano exam's and in her early teen years decided to explore her abilities in song-writing. She completed her first solo album in 2008 entitled, ‘The Carousel', which was released on Marigold Records. Holly also completed her honours degree in Communications and English in 2009.
To date, Parallels has shared billing with internationally recognized bands such as Crystal Castles (CAD), Sebastien Tellier (France), Glass Candy (USA) and Broken Social Scene (CAD). They have received rave reviews from acclaimed music blogs such as Discodust (GER), 20jazzfunkgreats (UK), Big Stereo (USA), The Music Fix (UK) and more. They have also appeared in The London Guardian (U.K), FACT Magazine, Clash Magazine, Dummy Magazine, Exclaim!, Toronto's NOW Magazine, the Toronto Star, 24 Hours (CAD). In FLARE Magazine's 30th anniversary September issue, Parallels was labelled one of "the hottest names to know in Canadian music".
Parallels recorded the material for their first EP, entitled "Ultralight," at Marigold Studios in Toronto. Released in June 2009, "Ultralight" is available in Canada and the U.S. on their website, in the U.S. on iTunes and on vinyl in the U.K. on Thisisnotanexit Records. The vinyl contains three of their most popular songs, "Ultralight", "Midnight Voices" and "Dry Blood". It is distributed by Thisisnotanexit in the U.K, and by Marigold Productions (Koch/E1) in North America. This 3 song EP was Toronto's Now Magazine's, Critic's Pick (NOW, vol. 28, no. 41, June 10-17, 2009).
Parallels was featured on France's taste-making compilation, Kitsuné Maison 8 in November 2009. The Band looks forward to promoting their full-length album entitled "Visionaries" scheduled for release on Marigold Productions in February 2010 in conjunction with their upcoming international tour.
