biographical info
Painted Youth is a three-piece, high energy emotional punk band from Vancouver, British Columbia. Formed in September of 2002, the trio have gained a reputation for skillfully combining raw, feedback-laden punk music with poetic lyrics about alienation, human relationships, and beauty in the urban environment.
Painted Youth started as a recording project between longtime friends and bandmates Eric Axen (guitar) and Bart Newman (drums). Coinciding with the release of their five-song demo tape, the two recruited bassist Norm Drouillard and began playing living rooms and all-ages venues before enthusiastic crowds.
Early 2003 saw Metal Steve replace Norm as the band’s bassist. It also saw the group’s sound shifting in a more melodic direction, while maintaining the original and subtly experimental elements which separate it from so much cliché and predictable punk rock. Painted Youth is currently planning a cross-Canada tour with Paper Lanterns to commence in the fall.
