biographical info
From the
black heart of coal country in British Columbia's Elk Valley, Old Man's Beard began as the song
writing duo of Michael Shaver and Jesse Clarke.
Since forming in early 2008, Jesse and Mike have
forged a repertoire of original music that
exposes the good, the grand, and the unknown.
As a duo they have excited audiences with their unique blend of reggae, boot-stompin' folk, and rock and
roll.
After relocating to the interior of BC, the duo
has evolved into a five-piece unit that includes Darrin Herting (formerly
of Arthur Funkarelli) on bass, Leon Power
(Steve Brockley, Herting Verberg Power
Trio) on drums, and Stephanie Webster's beautiful vocals. Rich, well-placed
harmonies, toe-tappin' rhythms and streamlined guitar work have become
standard for a band that has been able to move crowds of young and old,
lovers and enemies, Aussies and Englishmen, damsels, dames and dukes.
After a winter of writing and recording, the band
has released its first album, 'The River,'
and are currently touring in support of the
disc. Old Man's Beard have had their song 'Dawson Bound' featured on
the popular television show Daily Planet. Since mid-July, 'Tofino'
has received play on CBC radio's province-wide
program, All Points West. The group recently
performed as part of the 2009 Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival and
participated in the 2009 British Columbia Interior Music Awards (BCIMA) as
a performer
and nominee in the Best New Artist category.
Old Man's Beard loves to play music anywhere and
anytime for their growing fan base that is quickly reaching across the
Canadian landscape.
