As a duo, Bartleby J. Budde and Speedy D. Clark formed the folk/roots
group early last year, 2009. However, their reputation goes back to
their childhood of salt marsh hoedowns and roaring Baptist hymns, which
directly influence their songs today, concerning love and loss, joy and
despair, life and death. Days when the family would sing praises for
food on their plates, the Southern way. Two for tradition, Budde and
Clark thus chose the band's name, giving due respect to the old Georgian
town.
Now backed by a band, Ol' Savannah's songs take on an
upbeat, raw country drive that keeps folks on their feet, bottles in
their hands. Chris Byrne, bass, and Max Outerbridge, drums, joined the
Savannah stage early in 2010. And Kevin Labchuk, accordion, joined soon
thereafter, giving the southern blues a hint of creole flavour.
The
band has played in numerous bars/venues in Montreal (e.g., Divan
Orange, Quai Des Brumes, L'Escogriffe, and more). Also, they have just
completed an Eastern tour, playing shows in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia,
PEI, and Quebec.
Ol' Savannah next plans to take the road to Ontario for The Big Chill Tour - March 2011.
Bartleby
Prochain stop! Ontario - mars 2011
