biographical info
NORDIC NOMADIC is the newest project by Toronto musician Chad Ross.
Chad is a former member of Toronto's beloved, but sadly defunct garage rockers THE DEADLY SNAKES. He contributed guitar, bass and mandolin to two of their albums: 2002’s critically acclaimed Ode to Joy (In the Red Records) and 2005’s Polaris Prize-nominated Porcella (In the Red Records, Paper Bag Records).
Outside of his involvement with the Snakes, Ross' previous solo project GHOSTSTORY saw him lead members of Blue Rodeo, The Weakerthans and the Silverhearts through a mix of countrified psychedelia that was reminiscent at times of vintage Neil Young and Crazy Horse. The group’s only album to date, before the night's around me, was also released through Blue Fog Recordings.
NORDIC NOMANDIC is Ross' new extension of GHOSTSTORY's ragged country/folk jams, with fuzz, organs and finger-style electric guitar leading the way. This self-titled effort features Paul Aucoin of the Hylozoists on vibes, Dale Murray of El Torpedo on pedal steel and Paul Vernon of the Silverhearts on drums. Outside of their contributions, Ross plays all the other instruments on the album, including 6 and 12 string guitars, organs, vocals and synths. While GHOSTSTORY was electric, NORDIC NOMANDIC is quieter, more pensive and spacious in nature.
Outside of this new project, Chad is also currently a member of Toronto's QUEST FOR FIRE, a heavy psych band that features members of Cursed,
NoNo Zero and the Deadly Snakes.
