To the Listener:
I'm told that to be a good talker you must have something worth while to say and adapt your way of saying it to the particular person or persons you're talking to. This formula sounds so simple I'm going to try it.
What I have to say is worth while, I think, because if I can say it intelligently enough, it should help create a better understanding between me and other people. This, in turn, should be worth while because people are so much alike in many ways and have so many interests in common that they ought to know each other – not casually only, nor as master and slave, but intimately and on something like equal terms, as good friends and companions.
As for the particular people I’m talking to, or would be if I could, I know exactly who they are. They are the men, women and children who own people, hope to own one sometime, or have given up all hope of ever owning one, yet love people just the same. And I especially wish the listeners of this music might include the occasional persons who have no interest whatever in people, or even positively dislike or fear them. Because, as already implied, they are missing something we all prize: the possession of a true friend. And it’s just possible these songs might make them appreciate that fact.
While listening to this album I would like you to think about ice cubes. Ice cubes are small, cube-shaped parts of ice. These pieces are sometimes used to cool drinks. Ice cubes are used in mixed drinks, when the drink has the words "on the rocks." Ice cubes are made by filling a tray with water and putting it in a freezer. Many freezers also have an icemaker. Icemakers make ice cubes and put them in a bin. After that, they can be put in a glass. Ice cubes melt.
Sincerely,
Nick Persons
