biographical info
1 twang-loving indie-country rocker
upstart
1 bred-on-metal guitar phenom
1 rock solid groove setter
1 stick-shattering stand-up rockabilly drummer
No combination of these elements should work in theory; In
practice - and on stage - it's a different story.
My Shaky Jane is a four-piece band from Toronto, Ontario,
built on big guitar hooks, a powerful rhythm section, and infectious vocal
melodies. Their sound evokes 60s pop and 70s rock, yet sounds right at home in
the world of contemporary indie rock.
Jeff Pinto's upbeat songwriting owes obvious debts to both
American country rock, and the golden age of early 90s indie rock.
Guitarist Sasha Kosovic lends a grittier, meaner edge to the
band's sound, incorporating elements of early British heavy metal with his
inspired guitar work. In combination, the two guitarists produce a unique and
engrossing sound.
Bassist Michael Milosh, a talented songwriter in his own
right, anchors the group with his unique melodic yet rhythmic style.
Drummer Nevada Brown's thunderous and energetic playing
rounds out the band's massive sound. A bit of a loose cannon onstage, Nevada
prefers to stand during the live show - you have to see it to believe it.
My Shaky Jane churn out wild sweat-inducing sets without
sacrificing their unique sound's subtleties. Their energetic live shows get
people moving and rocking.
Their debut EP was released in March 2007 and charted on
college radio stations from London to Prince George before receiving a 4 star
review in Toronto's Eye Weekly. Behind that EP they were selected to play
at NXNE 2007, where their live shows drew rave reviews.
Their recently released debut album, Oh! The Pretty Things, recorded at the Bath House (Tragically Hip,
Sam Roberts, Levon Helm) managed to capture the band’s sound “without clipping
their balls” (Chart 12/07). Oh! The
Pretty Things really showed that “MY SHAKY JANE has a firm grasp on writing a
raucous party into every tune.” (Eye Weekly, 11/07). The debut full-length has
been charting consistently on Canadian college radio stations.
Their first, self-organized tour took
them across the country from Montreal to Vancouver and then back to Toronto.
To support their cross-country college radio-charting new release, My Shaky
Jane are bringing their “titanic live show” (CampusX 7/07) back to the people
of western Canada. This will be their second tour, bringing them from Toronto
to Vancouver and back – stopping at all points in between. They will be
returning just in time for their upcoming showcase at Canadian Music Week 2008.
