biographical info

Hailing from the strange and beautiful island of Montreal, Moufette first stormed the scene in 2002 with coveted opening slots for bands such as Interpol, the dears, Monade and Joseph Arthur. Steve Durand and Ariel Engle, reigning king and queen of the “Couplecore” electro folk boy-girl pop genre, began writing music together in 2002. The soaring alternative odes to love were born in a secluded lakeside cabin between snowstorms and bonfires. The intimate musical bliss was interrupted in 2004 when Steve began the first leg of what would become a year long international tour as guitarist/songwriter with Melissa Auf der Maur. While Steve played sold out ampitheatres, Ariel recorded a series of infectious indie folk ballads that would become both the start of a promising solo project as well as additions to the Moufette repetoir. Support came from all walks of Montreal's thriving musical community. Sophie Trudeau (Godspeed You Black Emperor, A Silver Mount Zion, Pat McGee and Chris Seligman (Stars), and Jon Ascencio (Starbean,Pest 5000,Fly Pan am) all lent a musical hand in Jace Lasek's (Besnard Lakes) Breakglass Studio. Reunited in 2005, Moufette’s first full length album will be released on High Tide Records November 8th distributed through Maple/Universal music Canada. A tour of the Universe will follow.
