biographical info
The Moonshine Ramblers offer their take on folk music, fusing bluegrass with country, rock, and blues. With an intent to dust off forgotten melodies while laying down fresh bootprints, Their sound has been described as "banjo picks dancing around guitar licks, 60's era harmonies and a solid rhythm section... the musicianship is top shelf, as the harmonies are spot on." (herohill)
They have built a dedicated and growing following in Atlantic Canada with their energetic live show. From busking at a farmers market in Halifax, to opening slots at benefit shows to playing festivals, and radio play across the country, the "Ramblers" have come a long way from their humble origins but will unwaveringly hold true to their grassroots.
In February, 2010, they released their highly-anticipated self-titled debut record. The album was recorded live off the floor of a loft turned studio in the north end of Halifax. Andrew Sneddon, Alex Hastie and Mark Gallant swap lead instruments while Gary Peacock and Adam Pye hold down the rhythm. The songs are sung by everyone including some musical friends passing through. The result is a collaborative vibe of catchy songs that do a great job of capturing the energy of their live show.
The album was released February 27th to a full crowd at the Company House at the tail-end of a four day jaunt around Nova Scotia and P.E.I. Reception to the album has been strong, receiving a nomination for "Bluegrass/Country Artist/Group Recording of the Year" from Music Nova Scotia. The record has been spinning all over CBC and on college radio across the country and has charted on CFRC (Kingston ON), CFBX (Kamloops BC), CFUV (Victoria BC), CILU (Thunder Bay ON), CKDU (Halifax NS), CJAM (Windsor ON), CKXU (Lethbridge AB), and CJSF (Burnaby BC) hitting #4 overall, and entering the folk/roots charts on CHRY (Toronto, On) at #1 with no sign of slowing down.
The future looks bright and busy as ever with a showcase slot at ECMA 2011 in Charlottetown and plans to tour from Halifax to Victoria in April with their recently purchased tour bus. Look for a new EP in April as well. The Ramblers are a force to be reckoned with.
