biographical info
The Monday Night Sessions came together in the winter of 2009 when a few friends decided to play a regular monthly gig at the legendary Baba's Lounge in Charlottetown. Rob Oakie, also the executive director of Music PEI, asked his daughter Laura (piano, sax and vocals) and Dennis Ellsworth (guitar and vocals), leader of Haunted Hearts to get together and bring in a different guest each month for an intimate night of music doing a mix of originals and covers. The guests over the months have included a who's who of the PE Island music scene. Such names as John Connolly, Nudie and Thomas from Nudie and the Turks, Tim Chaisson and Tian Wigmore, John MacPhee and Colin Buchanan of Paper Lions, Chas Guay, Remi Arsenault, Pastelle & Pascal of Vishten, Meaghan Blanchard, Josh Ellis of the Grass Mountain Hobos, Mark Haines, Catherine MacLellan and her guitarist Chris Gauthier to name a few have graced the stage.
Since that time Mark (Lefty) Geddes, former bassist of Nudie and the Turks and the Grass Mountain Hobos has joined the trio to round out the quartet.
Their first foray into the studio together was to record a song written by Rob called Will There Be Any Water, a song dedicated to our environment about the uncertain future of our home, planet earth. There will be more songs to come this year.
