biographical info
What a difference a year makes. From coffee houses to concert halls Matt York has not only gained recognition as one Canada’s hottest young artists, but has been wowing audiences across the globe. Selling almost 8000 copies of his 2003 release, the Zero Six EP, Matt was ready to step it up a bit, and step it up he did with his new full-length release Under The Streetlights.
Working with producer Justin Koop, Matt tracked 11 songs over 5 months, working diligently on nights and weekends to capture the style and sound Matt was trying to accomplish.
Not only has the music come together, but Matt has worked incredibly hard on all aspects of the business. He designed all of the band merch, designed and maintaining the website and made by hand all of the EP’s he sold. “The role of an independent musician has changed so much in recent years. It’s like; you need to work your ass off to get your stuff going like you would as a small business owner. That’s what we are as indie musicians – small businesses.” Matt learned a lot from watching fellow musicians and friends, Nine Mile and his own cousin Andy Stochansky work hard at their craft.
Matt York will be releasing his album at the end of April in Toronto and then embarking on a 23-city North American tour, so watch out for him coming through your town with his band this spring! Come see what everyone’s talking about….
