New Brunswick's Matt Andersen has a larger than life showmanship that has been earning him a fervent and steadfast audience wherever he graces the stage. Matt's sprawling blues, roots and rock musical hybrid with his sorrowing and soulful voice has sparked a phenomenal buzz on Canada’s East Coast and that grass roots word of mouth cannot be contained any longer!
In the past few years, Matt has released three full length studio releases “Second Time Around”, "Something In Between"and "Piggyback" (with Mike Stevens), as well as his classic "Live From the Phoenix Theatre". Along with a very busy touring schedule all across North America, Matt has recently opened for Buddy Guy, played the main stage at the Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg folk festivals, as well as the legendary Glastonbury Festival in the UK.
Matt also has garnered some significant accolades in recent years. Not only was he the first Canadian to win at the prestigious 'International Blues Challenge' in Memphis (Best Solo Performer), Matt also was voted 'Acoustic Artist of the Year' as well as 'Entertainer of the Year' at this year's Maple Blues Awards.
Matt’s new release “Coal Mining Blues” is due out September 20th on Canada’s Busted Flat Records (Distribution – F>A>B) and is one the most anticipated releases of the year.
"Coal Mining Blues" was recorded at the studio of legend Levon Helm and features Colin Linden in the producer's chair. Alongside a bunch of original compositions, Matt and Colin have co-written some songs and have included songs by Canadian icon Willie P Bennett as well as country legend Charlie Rich.
Musicians on the album include Amy Helm, Dennis Pendrith and John Sheard (Vinyl Cafe Orchestra) as well as a guest appearance from Garth Hudson (The Band) !!
