biographical info
Massawippi Skank is an independent six piece group in Montreal,
dedicated to heating up dancefloors with an enticing blend of
traditional ska with bop-inspired horn improvisation and roots rock
bass lines. Starting out loosely as a Sunday afternoon weekly jam
session, Massawippi Skank began to play shows in the small college town
of Lennoxville, Quebec. They rounded out their set of traditional
Jamaican ska and reggae with catchy original tunes inspired by the
captivating scenery that is unique to the Eastern Townships. Massawippi
Skank has shared the g the stage with great local ska/reggae groups
such as Take the Boys, Caillasse, Thousands of Bicycles, The Hangers,
Stepper, the Wax Buckets, and Rudeboy (Ottawa Ska). The Skanks have
played a variety of venues such as Bar St. Laurent II, Les Bobards, the
House of Reggae, Cabaret Playhouse, Bar L’absynthe, Café Chaos, Les 3
Minots, the UAB bike park, Way’s Mills Shazam Fest, and the Barfly. In
spring 2009 the Skanks also recorded a live demo of tunes that got
crowds a skankin in their very own Studio 45 (which, has burned and is
