biographical info
Mark Birtles was born in a Rock & Roll monastery high in the Rocky Mountains. Trained in the art of all that is punk and godly, he flourished as a Rock & Roll monk.
One day, whilst meditating under a tree, Mark Birtles had a vision. He saw the world of Rock & Roll being taken over by self interested people, concerned more with seeming cool and important than with rocking out and having fun. He also saw the legions of overly serious people, treating Rock & Roll with the fervour of religious fundamentalists, sucking the life out of it.
But he also envisioned the solution. Five men with little interest in being cool. Five men who don't take themselves very seriously. Five men whose only interest lies in creating something new and exciting, dangerous and urgent. These five men would use the weapons of voice, guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. They would utilize the power of alcohol, drugs and sex to strengthen their message.
Upon awaking from his vision, Mark Birtles cut off the fingers of his right hand and watched as they were transformed into the five beings of which he'd dreamt. He gave them the name "Mark Birtles Project" and set them loose to rock out and re-teach the world about the fun in Rock & Roll.
