biographical info

In stores now is the debut album from Montreal hip hop royalty Malicious (a.k.a Mr. Malish). The release “Music Starts With M”, is a prodigious attempt by the unassuming rapper (of Barbadian descent), to not only put Quebec’s burgeoning English rap scene on the map, but to also put the fun & diversity back into “the game”.

A one time “undisputed freestyle king of Montreal” (who was battling against icons such as Jeru The Damaja by the age of fifteen) comes full circle with this epic release. He has been described as having “a pride in wordology, a talent in verses” The Run-Off Groove #185      The talented mc/producer runs the gamut with a mix of street fuelled gems for the heads, along with club & radio bangers, so much so that in a recent Chart Magazine review, Malicious was said to have “a maturity, you rarely see in hip hop nowadays”

Having written and produced most of the album, Mr Malish, a member of the legendary “Offsides” outfit, really brings it with tracks like Breakfast (the latest video which has received heavy rotation on Vibe & medium on Much), Yuk, Hip Hop, Gameday, Reign, Walk Alone & Take Me Home. The first two singles Heavy M-T-L (video featured in the CBC documentary “China’s Sexual Revolution”, also a Top 5 video on Much Music’s “Rap City”)  & Heatwave are also featured on the 18 track set.

Additional production comes from Team Canada, Franky Fat Sak, H2O & City Parks

Being on the “grind” is nothing new for Malicious, who previously had a single release in the US the joint “Take Off” which was well received in major urban centres such as New York, Detroit and Chicago. As a member of Offsides” he produced their first single “2def” which received heavy video rotation on Much Music, MTV Canada (Top Ten Most requested) and MTV Asia as well as touring extensively with the group.

Malish, lists his cousin, the infamous R-Kade and Prince as his two major inspirations and is presently working on new material of his own, as well as for upcoming projects in the USA & Europe. Besides checking out his hip hop reverence the Music Starts With M album, you can check out his freestyle prowess on the new DJ IV (Classified) mixtape hosted by Malicious!

Malicious Takes on West Coast Swing To Support Music Starts With M

posted by The Aires Report

Fresh off the release of his debut album “Music Starts With M”, Montreal’s premier English hip-hop artist, Malicious, will be setting his sights on an upcoming west coast jaunt in April, to continue to support his well received disc!

Malicious (aka Mr Malish) will be performing at various venues across BC and AB, as he builds on his ever growing fan-base, with his “no holes barred true school hip-hop”. With an aim of becoming one of the dominant forces in hip hop, the clever wordsmith & beat-maker, produced 14 of the 18 tracks on his album and continues to push the envelope as he is presently working on various collaborations here in Canada & internationally.

Along with this he’s been nominated for the second year in a row in two categories in the upcoming Sound of Blackness Awards,

(which honours artisans of the black culture in Quebec & Canada)

. Best English Hip-Hop Artist or Group of the Year

. Anglophone Revelation of the Year

In 2007 Malicious won for Best Anglophone Video for his Mount Real anthem “Heavy M-T-L”, which was also recently featured in the CBC Doc Zone’s “China’s Sexual Revolution” : http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ud04SbXyjjE
