biographical info
Mile Over Mecca is a rock band from
the basement apartments and bachelor pads of Centretown, Ottawa. The band,
as always, is Ashley Brier, Zachary Fouchard, J.D. Rifkin and Mike Rifkin.
In winter 2007, the band launched their debut EP, Where Have All The Anarchists
Gone? The five-song collection was recorded and mixed at the soon-to-be-legendary
Yogi's Meat Locker by Yogi himself. Created with the help of a dude who knows
rock as well as anyone in the city, the recordings couple folk-inspired harmonies
and warm, thoughtful lyrics with the assertiveness of a full, spirited rock
band.
Lyrically, Anarchists is an album about the reclamation of both our
physical and mental environments from the forces that value consumption over
creation. The songs tell of the small, peaceful revolutions that take place
in our hearts every day; the tiny acts of independence we must carry out to
remind the world we exist.
Anarchists is about anyone who ever wrote a song or started a blog.
Or skipped work to go to a rally or make love. Anyone who ever created anything
with the hopes of adding a little fairness, warmth or happiness to the world.
To find the answer to the question the title poses, you needn't look any further
than the open stage at the pub around the corner from your apartment, the
zines sitting on the counter at your favourite record store or in the eyes
of the strangers you pass on the street.
