melodia is a trans-atlantic musical duo composed of two sisters, caitlin and scotia.
melodia's sound was established with the twang of caitlin's electric guitar and the drone of scotia's accordion at the core, spun around half-asleep rhythms of xylophone, piano, guitar, banjo and mandolin craziness. melodia is a project of compiling musical ideas, with caitlin and scotia sending recorded songs to each other on 4-track tapes through the mail when they're apart, and playing til their fingers ache when they're together. melodia's music is equally at home in the world of indie pop as in the world of eastern european street musicians.
scotia and caitlin are also a banjo-accordion street duo. they busk in the warmer months, with old-time european tunes, klezmer, and carnivalesque reveries.
