biographical info
Take a few friends who met at an arts high school, throw them in a basement with their instruments, add influences ranging from Brad Mehldau to Sonic Youth to Radiohead and a passion for writing twisted, energetic tunes about love, life, isolation, dreams and paranoia and you have Lyra. The four piece indie rock band met at Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto and had been swapping musical ideas and playing in a slew of different projects for years before eventually coming together as Lyra in 2010. Since that time the band has been moving more rapidly than expected, playing a large number of shows, perfecting their sound and recording an E.P. in the summer of 2011, which has garnered local buzz and praise since its release on October eighth. In the time Lyra have been together a unique sound has developed that cannot be mistaken for any other act in the music scene today. Best described as energetic indie rock jingles, mixed with Victorian style choir chants, sixties grooves, eighties textures and jazzy undertones Lyra's sound is one not to be missed.
