biographical info

Are they a jazzy funk act, or a funky jazz band?   The answer is YES.   This is Lord Bubba’s Nu-Jazz Project.   Lord Bubba’s Nu-Jazz Project is a five-piece instrumental jazz funk act based out of Toronto, Canada.   They specialize in a style of music that some call jazz-funk, acid jazz, nu-jazz and jazz fusion.   What are they?  They’re the players of music that is jazz harmonies and improvisation mixed with a groove that makes you want to move.   It’s a high energy jazz-funk that all who hear it, want to hear more.  This band is entertaining to jazz fans and to non-jazz fans alike.

The band is led by bassist, Lord Bubba: a man who has recorded and performed with many artists in many genres over the years.   But jazz-funk is where his heart is, and that’s why he brought together some incredibly talented musicians to work with him to create some mighty fine music: Elena Kapeleris on the saxophone, Scott Metcalfe on the keyboards, Rich Brisco on the drums and Rino Manfredi on percussion rounds out Lord Bubba‘s Nu-Jazz Project.    With this combination of jazz, pop, soul and Latin artists Lord Bubba’s Nu-Jazz Project is able to mesh old-school jazz-funk and mix in modern elements of house, dub, and drum & bass.

In March of 2011, Lord Bubba’s Nu-Jazz Project released its debut CD “The Nu Standards” to the public.   Since its release it has gained a fair amount of attention.   Online radio stations such as Swissgroove.ch, GrooveFM.de, Acid Jazz Radio and  Sky.Fm began to play some of the tracks almost immediately, and up to this day, stay in their rotation.   As of July, 2011, CBC has been playing tracks off the album on shows such as Fresh Air, Tonic, and As It Happens (as bridge music between stories).  The Nu Standards has also been played on many college stations across Canada as well as on the Galaxie Network’s “Jazz Now” station.

Lord Bubba’s Nu-Jazz Project has performed at the TD Canada Trust Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival, and the Oakville Jazz Festival as well as various clubs around the Greater Toronto Area.  Lord Bubba’s Nu-Jazz Project is looking forward to a Canadian Tour in spring/summer of 2012.

In the meantime, you can check out more about Lord Bubba’s Nu-Jazz Project at www.lordbubba.com as well as iTunes, CD Baby, and Amazon.com.  Don’t worry, they will be bringing the jazz-funk to your town soon.
