biographical info

Ottawa's Loon Choir formed in 2009 and have released two albums; Expansion Forces in 2010 and Fire Poems in 2012.  Both records were produced by Ohbijou's James Bunton.  The Loon Choir sound is based around catchy hooks, poetic lyrics, dark undertones and a general sense of urgency.

Some highlights thus far include being shortlisted for a 2012 CBC R3 Bucky Award for Best New Artist as well as having the single, All Boats Don't Rise reach #2 on the CBC R3-30.  Loon Choir have played notable events like POP Montreal, NXNE,  JUNOfest and Ottawa's Bluesfest and have toured everywhere between Windsor and Charlottetown and have plans to head west in 2013.

Loon Choir is Derek Atkinson (lead vocals, guitar), Nicole Yates (vocals, piano, keys), Dan Larmour (guitar, vocals), Brad Sheffield (synth), Kathleen Cauley (violin), Jamie LeClair (bass), Baris Bilgen (drums).

Happy End of the World

posted by kidcauley

Or not. Well, if the World had to end today we couldn't say it hadn't been a good year for the Loon Crew. We had a tune ('All Boats Don't Rise') reach number #2 on the R3-30, were shortlisted for a Bucky Award (Rookie of the Year!), played NXNE, POP Montreal, Ottawa's Bluesfest, and toured to the East Coast (sorry NFLD, we'll get ya next time!). Now our song 'Nowhere to Go' is in rotation, ohhhh man.

I made two wishes at the beginning of this year. That LC plays Bluesfest and get played on R3. I could not have imagined we'd reach #2, let alone being nominated for a Bucky! Looks like this year LC needs to dream a little bigger.

Needless to say, our 2012 success would not be possible without our friends and family. We have said it before, but you are a force. Thank you for gracing us with your support, love, and kindness. It is not a luxury.

Loon Choir wishes you a Happy Holiday, Merry Christmas, and a prosperous loving New Year.

Happy the Mayans were wrong,

KC of LC

P.S. If you see us at shows, please come say hello - it makes us so happy to make new friends :)
