biographical info
LOLA DUTRONIC are a French Pop/Electronica duo that split their time between Toronto, Canada and Berlin, Germany. Originally conceived as the bilingual brainchild of producer/composer/multi-instrumentalist Richard Citroen, combining modern electronic production with the 60's-era French Pop that he loves.
Originally consisting of Citroen and vocalist Francoise (Frankie) Hart, the band put out two album on Vancouver-based indie label Bongo Beat Records.
Both albums, "The World Of Lola Dutronic" and the Grammy Award nominated* "The Love Parade" are now collectors items.
2007- 2008 was a period of major upheaval for the band, first with the departure of vocalist Frankie Hart, her subsequent replacement by new vocalist Lola Dee (that's her in the picture) and the band's departure from Bongo Beat Records. Taking their cue from Simply Red and Radiohead, the band now pursue a career path that sees the elimination of record labels all together.
In late 2008, the band released it's third album, "Lola Dutronic In Berlin".
Recorded in an abandoned Berlin apartment, the band recruited famed David Bowie sideman, Mike Garson to contribute some of his trademark piano. This albums marks a leap forward for the band, with elements of Euro Disco in the mix in addition to their more familiar Downtempo French Pop/Electronica.
in 2010 the band signed with Red Star Digital Music, the revived label owned by Marty Thau, the man behind The New York Dolls, Blondie, Suicide and many more. The resulting "Musique" EP featured remxed version of the most popular tracks from "In Berlin" plus two new recordings. in 2011 saw the departure of vocalsist Lola Dee, and her replacement by Dusseldorf-based vocalist Stephanie B. Later that year, the band released the "New York Stories" EP, where they covered songs from the late 70's CBGBs/Max's era. Featuring the singles "Kids Just Wanna Dance" and "Keep Your Dreams", the EP has met with crticial acclaim worldwide. 2012 sees the band recording on a new album that should be released in the summer of 2012....
