Liminal State is a dark, experimental/electronic group created in
Calgary 2006 by local artists Kyle Thomas and Steve Carey. Liminal
State focuses heavily on textures, dynamics and the atmospheres that
exist between industrial soundscapes and music. What began as an
experimental partnership composing soundtracks for short films later
developed into The Liminal State of Decay, a concept album released in
the summer of 2009.
With support from the Canada Council for the Arts, Liminal State teamed up with Alberta-based production company NORTH COUNTRY CINEMA
to create a series of short films to accompany the album. Local
musicians/engineers Paul Chirka and Sean Friend were recruited into
LiminalState in order to bring the project out of the studio and onto
the stage. Liminal State is currently working on their second album,
set for release in Spring 2010.
