LARRY JENSEN
BIO
Grey-Bruce has become an oasis for top notch artist
who prefer country living to the hustle and bustle of big city life
Those artists include Owen Sound’s Larry Jensen, considered among the
finest singer/songwriters in the twin counties.
Jensen’s musical tastes are eclectic. That’s probably why this seasoned
performer’s own musical style is impossible to pigeonhole.
There’s a side to Jensen capable of delivering hard-edged blues with a
bourbon-and-cigarettes voice. His original blues tunes belong in a smoky bar in
the heart of New Orleans. But those same songs are equally popular with his
Canadian fans.
There’s also a sensitive side to Jensen, whose vocals can just as easily
take on a smooth, gentle quality providing a perfect vehicle for delivering his
equally moving lyrics.
Then there’s Jensen’s fun-loving side, which shines through in funky
country-rock originals.
Jensen’s fans include organizers of the Summerfolk Music and Crafts
Festival, a major event on the North American folk festival circuit. He’s a
festival regular who has been booked for 20 of 35 festivals.
Jensen has released 14 albums over the years featuring all original
songs. Jensen started writing songs in the early 1970’s. Songwriting earned him
success over the years, including airplay on the CBC, Canada’s national radio
station. One of his songs was recorded in Nashville. Warner/Chappell signed
another Jensen original and shopped it south of the border.
In June of 2008, Larry was accompanied by the Georgian Bay Symphony
Orchestra at a sold out concert at the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound.
In October 2009, Larry was awarded the very first “Owen Sound Cultural
Award”
For his musical contributions to his home community.
