Formed in 1999 by Marc Simao and Janie Cranfield in Edmonton, AB, litterbug has since released two full-length albums (pablo and kaiser) and an EP (hollis) on its own monkey-bar-records label. The band is releasing their third full-length album entitled zero hour on April 28, 2009.
Litterbug's debut album pablo, released in 2002, features wide-ranging instrumentation (including clarinet, trombone, violin, and glockenspiel) and diverse musical talents. kaiser, the follow-up, was released in 2004 along with hollis (ep) later that year. In 2004, litterbug also recorded "oh, you are so beautiful" for a CBC Radio 3 session, which is featured on the New Music Canada compilation New Music Canada, Vol. 1. litterbug has appeared on two other compilations (both produced by CJSR Radio): Ralph Nader Was Here released in 2003, and Get Out of Your Basement released in 2007.
Both Marc and Janie moved the band to Vancouver, BC in late 2005, and in the Fall of 2006, Spencer Rose and Amelia Mori joined the band to work on new material. The band recorded Zero Hour in a Baptist Church in Vancouver in the Summer and Fall of 2008 and released it on April 28, 2009 .
In the Spring of 2009, Amelia Mori left to go to medical school in Australia and in the fall of 2009 Spencer Rose left to focus on other projects. Mouki k. Butt and Stewart Lampe joined the band in late 2009 and litterbug began to work on new material.
