biographical info
Taking a page from 50s crooners, 30s style jazz, and the 60s chanteuse tradition, Lily Frost's brand of Lounge Pop is a musical hybrid, a blend of forms that gives her music an international flavour.
In 2003, Lily joined up with Aporia Records in Toronto with whom she released Situation, an album infused with Latin rhythms and multi-linguism. The video single, "Silversun," was on the BravoVideo! chart for six weeks, claiming the #1 spot for two. This and other songs were also featured in numerous Canadian and U.S. TV and film spots, including Robson Arms (CTV), Cake (with Heather Graham), Falcon Beach (Global) and These Girls (TIFF).
During a successful 2005 East Coast tour (and a much talked about Pop Montreal set), Lily was busy forming new songs for her next record. Recorded and produced by husband Jose Contreras (of By Divine Right fame), Cine-Magique explores a more stripped-down facet of her music. The new album touches on forms that vary from spaghetti western music (see the track "secrets") to 60s French pop, utilizing both lush harmonies and intimate solo vocal work. Subtle percussion and reverb-laden guitars combine to create sweet but haunting rhythms and melodies. On the whole, Cine-Magique is perhaps a more moody, darker album, even as it covers a wider range of styles and influences.
Cine-Magique hits the streets Sept. 19th, 2006.
