biographical info
Born and raised in Ottawa, Kool Krys moved to Halifax in 2003 to pursue her undergrad studies. There she established herself as a prominent member of the east coast hip hop scene immersed in Dalhousie University’s CKDU 88.1 FM Radio, teaching and choreographing hip hop dance in the community, and emceeing at local venues and events.
In 2007, Kool Krys released her debut album, “The Return of Diana Prince,” with production by 2011 Juno-nominated producer Bix featuring Halifax talent.
Kool Krys’ second album “Perfume” was released in 2010. The single “Never Give You Up” ft. Eternia was featured on MC Lyte’s Hip Hop Sisters May Playlist (2010). Kool Krys is currently in rotation on international radio shows in Brazil, Poland, London, Portugal, Greece, and Finland. The single “Feel The Culture” ft. Ghettosocks was featured on UGWHH: The Illest Female Rappers Volume 1.
Kool Krys has also been featured on national radio and TV programs, including CBC Radio’s Bandwidth, Ottawa Morning, and All in a Day (Ottawa), Concordia University’s Grrls Groove and the Phantastiq Cypha (Montreal), The Urban Renewal Project (BC), Carleton University’s Tha New Journey (Ottawa) and The Polish Review on Rogers Television (Ottawa). Kool Krys recently performed on CBC Radio One’s All In a Day with Alan Neal during CBC Ottawa’s Share Central 2011 Holiday Fundraiser which raised over $25K in support of Operation Come Home – a local charity supporting homeless youth.
In 2011, Kool Krys also shot her first music video funded by MuchFact and directed by Canadian-born Marc Andre Debruyne for the Kool Krys debut single “Show Stopper” from her third album “Listen to Your Art” now available at koolkrys.bandcamp.com .
