biographical info

King Nancy is a powerful quartet hailing from Newfoundland, the very edge of the known earth. The band is comprised Jerry Stamp (guitar and vocals), Mark Turner (guitar), Brad Madden (bass), and Chris Clarke (drums). Together they recorded their independently released full-length debut To Quitta in the summer of 2002. Originally an acoustic duo, they decided to switch to electric and become a full band, embracing a heavier rock sound. Jerry's strong, soaring vocals strip the songs of any cliches; his lyrics are etched in the rubric of heartbreak and loneliness. The guitars strain and surge against each other, threatening to break at any minute, while the rhythm section rains down like a volley of anvils. Soon after the release of 'To Quitta', the band decided to pack their bags and head to Toronto. "We were ready for a change, and the idea was Toronto is the hub, and what we were trying to do would be far easier,” Mark remembers. So they packed up everything they had, and set off into the west. Once they got their bearings, they quickly started doing shows and amassed a loyal following. Their follow-up CD ' you were indestructible once', produced by Brian Moncarz (Pilate, the Junction), is a 6-song EP jammed with the same brand of explosive energy that their audience has come to expect. The driving rock rhythms and unrelenting hooks of tracks like "Free Your Army" and "Songs from Dead German Composers" are anthems for stadiums that haven't been built yet.
