biographical info
Brilliantly blending influences of folk, cabaret and classical styles, John Jerome and the great 88 are a Moncton-based duo pairing soulful guitar and melodic piano. In marrying these sounds to create an impressive musical mélange, The Great 88 have accomplished a style of their own from otherwise simple means. Their first full-length album is due out January 2008.
“The guitar is a small orchestra. It is polyphonic. Every string is a different color, a different voice.”
“My guitar is not a thing. It is an extension of myself. It is who i am.”
John Jerome, lead singer and guitarist, made his way through the east coast music scene for the past 10 years. Music is not only his passion but his drive in life. He has released two albums with the group Heimlich, collaborated on a few eps and produced the cd compilation an obscene scene and a john Jerome and the great 88 ep.
“The piano is able to communicate the subtlest universal truths by means of wood, metal and vibrating air.”
“Life is like a piano... what you get out of it depends on how you play it.”
Julie Robichaud is a classically trained pianist who received her masters at Laval University. She has previously performed with Alexy and the Galaxy and Mario Poupette et les chevettes.
Together they form a poignant duo from a simple composition of musicians. They like to think that they’ve brought a new twist to an old kind of classic sound. Their folky-cabaret style has already caught the attention of movie producer, Jacques Gervais Levesque who bought his music to feature on his latest movie entitled boot camp nation. The band is currently in preparation to record their first full-length album. They will be working out of a concert hall at the university of Moncton, with local producer/Sound Engineer Matt Hogg.
