biographical info

Canadian singer/songwriter Joel Willoughby absorbed plenty of culture in his youth - growing up overseas with globe-traveling parents gave him a unique world view. At one time his family lived in war-torn Uganda, while Willoughby went to an English boarding school in Kenya. There, he met other kids from around the world, played the usual British sports such as rugby & cricket, & was introduced to the influential Brit-pop scene. With such varied life experiences, that well-traveled, world-weary soul can't help but show up in his songs. Willoughby has been writing & performing in various bands for over 10 years. He spent many years drumming in Vancouver's 'critically acclaimed' Maplewood Lane & Dawntreader before going solo. He's released 3 solo albums: all produced by Jonathan Anderson (Aidan Knight, Stabilo, Kensington Prairie). His last album (Rain & Pocket Change) had songs featured on the Hollister in-store playlist & on College radio across North America. His most recent album, 'Canadian Winters' is now available. For fans of Sufjan Stevens, Denison Witmer, Wico, & Josh Rouse.

New Album Out On Nov 29th!‏

posted by Joeloughby

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to let you know about a new album I have coming out on November 29th. It's called Canadian Winters and the songs and music were inspired by the cold, dark, months of winter we experience here in Canada...and also by the season of winter that one can experience on this journey of life. The album was crafted in my little home studio (artHouse) with sparse instrumentation and (quite likely) too much reverb. Jon Anderson mixed, mastered, and also added some beautiful instrumentation to the tracks @ Buena Vista Audio. There are a couple of Christmas Carols, and two Maplewood Lane covers on this album that fit the mood perfectly (the title track, Canadian Winters is one of them). I also cover a song called Nothing To Offer by Jon Reine (one of my favorite songwriters - check out his band Greycoats). And there's a couple of new songs of mine on the album as well for good measure...So Far Away (On Christmas Day) and Christmas Eve. You can preview and order the album here:

Thanks for listening!
