Jocelyn Pettit is an outstanding young fiddler, stepdancer, singer, and composer from Canada's West Coast. With determination, passion, a keen appreciation for tradition, and an excitement to explore new ideas, Jocelyn has developed impressive musicianship well beyond her age, and earned the reputation as lively "Celtic sensation".
First inspired by the uplifting spirit and drive of Cape Breton tunes, Jocelyn has now created her own musical style, and earned widespread respect for her skills and innovation. From her natural presence and enthusiastic energy on stage, it is clear she loves to perform. She leads The Jocelyn Pettit Band with full accompaniment, and has also performed with The BC All-Star Fiddlers, The North Shore Celtic Ensemble, The Jocelyn Trio, and The Vancouver Scottish Fiddles.
Special events and festivals have taken Jocelyn to perform in many communities across Canada coast-to-coast, into Washington State, and throughout Scotland. Some highlights have been: Whistler World Ski & Snowboard Festival; BC Highland Games; Vancouver 2010 Olympic Victory Ceremony; Vancouver CelticFest; Mission Folk Festival; White Rock Spirit-of-the-Sea; Ottawa/Hull Canada Day Celebrations; Owen Sound Summerfolk; Goderich Celtic Roots Festival; Le Festival d’Été de Quebec - 400e Anniversaire; Mondial des Cultures Drummondville; Aberdeen International Youth Festival; Scotland SpeyFest; and Seattle Northwest Folklife. Jocelyn's music has also been heard on several regional and national radio stations, including CBC Early Edition pre-Olympic special "The Road to the Games", CBC NXNW, CiTR FM "The Edge On Folk", CFOS "The Hundred Mile Music Show", and Mountain FM.
A debut CD was released in early 2010, and recently has been nominated for two Canadian Folk Music Awards - in the "World Artist of the Year" and "Young Performer of the Year" categories. This album features high-energy NEW-TRAD Celtic fusion, with original, contemporary and traditional pieces, steeped in the folk traditions of BC, Cape Breton, Scotland, Ireland, Scandinavia, USA, and France. This feel-good music is led by the blazing-to-soulful fiddle, and is accompanied by piano, guitar, bodhran, fiddle harmonies, and lyrical vocals, with special guest musicians (cello, whistle, guitar, cittern, viola, fiddles). Mixed together, this ignites into an alluring sound of foot stompin' dance tunes, rhythms & chops, rich tones, and sweet melodies.
