biographical info

Jill Newman shreds convention with her fiery and soulful electric guitar renditions  original blues and roots tunes.  Bruce Gerrish, producer of Vancouver City Limits proclaims, "Jill Newman is an authentic electric blues guitarist - a treat for all audiences." Don't miss Jill's upcoming show at the WISE Hall in Vancouver, a double header she'll share with the Bill Johnson Blues Band.

Jill's love of the guitar started at an early age. As a teenager on Vancouver Island, Jill delighted audiences in coffee houses with her original songs and unique style of guitar playing. Jill honed her guitar chops while touring throughout BC and Alberta in country rock bands, rock duos and all women punk bands. In 1996, Jill turned her attention to original projects and became the lead guitarist and vocalist for Jessee Jane, Vancouver's hottest all women roots band. The demise of the Janes led Jill to the Swinging Doors and many successful gigs at roots festivals and venues throughout Vancouver.

The year 2004 marked a breakthrough for Jill when she released Fragile Walls, her debut CD. This collection of alt country and bluesy roots tunes reflects Jill's unique ability to combine impressive vocals and stellar song writing with solid electric guitar work. Her songs are filled with depth and emotion. Jill is currently working on a new blues album.

As one of Canada's finest female lead guitarists, Jill Newman and her cast of stellar supporting players deliver a potent cocktail of genuine roots and blues.
