JESSE DENATALE

Celebrated American singer songwriter Jesse DeNatale comes from Northern California. He has released two critically acclaimed albums, Shangri-La West and Soul Parade. Along with the Ep Dreamer's Holiday. He has appeared on various compilations, tributes and soundtracks. He has toured both nationally and internationally performing in festivals, clubs and theaters.

DeNatale would tell you that there are many artists both musical and otherwise who greatly inspire him. "Composers and songwriters from the far past and certainly my friends and peers today they all give me inspiration. It has always been a melting pot of influence, always from a new and an old source. Classical composers, punk rockers, roots, blues, jazz. nature. The music comes in from every direction." The creative relationship between mythology and everyday life is pivotal to DeNatale's songwriting. He learned guitar from listening to Ramblin' Jack Elliott records. Years later Elliott would take him under his wing and encouraged him to open his shows.

"Songwriting might have come to me as a necessity. All I really wanted to do was sing, unfortunately it's usually not that immediate a process. Most the time the lyrics don't just fall out of the sky."

But it is his way with words, as well as their marriage to simple, tuneful and mysteriously soulful melodies, that has kept the diehard fans, including Tom Waits, novelist Michael Ondaatje ("The English Patient") and former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins in DeNatale's corner.

His new record Hallelujah Rain will be released in the winter of 2010.

"Now it seems that all of the best ones have been driven underground. If there is a leak in the boiler room, it is the music of Jesse DeNatale,a unique and original American voice." - Tom Waits

"Shangri-La West was a great first album. A rough and tender voice, intricate lyrics, and wise new songs, Soul Parade is half dance and half street confessional. All from the heart.   - Michael Ondaatje, The English Patient

"Jesse DeNatale has absorbed the essence of what makes a great song"- Greg Quill, Toronto Star

"He's the bard of Tomales Bay" - Ramblin' Jack Elliott

"Coming across the musical inner workings of Jesse DeNatale was the single most soul satisfying surprise of my year" - Eliza Gilkyson

"Beautifully produced, and orchestrated, and stocked with inventive and compelling songs, Soul Parade reminds us that Jesse DeNatale is one of the most distinctive singers and creative lyricists of his generation and the generations that flank him. - Billy Collins U.S Poet Laureate 2001-2003
