biographical info
Hello. My name is Jeff Huggins and I am a singer/songwriter from Coquitlam, BC. You could say that I started my musical career at the age of six when I was enrolled in piano lessons by my parents. I can't say that at the time I entirely liked the idea of practicing scales and triads that much, but now as a singer/songwriter, I'm thrilled that I made it through piano up to grade nine! See, knowing how to play the piano branched off into everything am able to do today.
I learned guitar and drums pretty quickly in grade eight, and joined a program called SASS (School Alliance of Student Songwriters) which showed me the wonderful world of writing songs. In the Spring of 2009 I received second place out of more than 20 performers at the SASS Year End Recital. The summer of 2009 I entered "Port Moody Idol" and performed for Golden Spike Days, winning 1st place in the junior category. Earlier that year, I formed a rock band with my cousin Jonny and my best friend David. In September we found a drummer (Aaron) and went on to become "The Knots". We won a songwriting contest in February 2010 for New Westminster and played for the New West Olympic Torch Relay! On May 1st, 2010 we won "BC's Best Teen Band Contest" hosted by Youthink Magazine and Tom Lee Music.
I'm the singer/rhythm guitarist for the band, but I still find time to work as a solo singer/songwriter. This past summer I started busking at Granville Island. I spent most of my summer there honing my skills while making a bit of money and I absolutely loved it. Right now I'm in Grade 12 (My final year of high school) and I'm continuing to work on singing through extra courses like Vocal Jazz, Choir and Musical Theatre.
