Finnish-Canadian songwriter Jarmo Jalava’s unique blend of rootsy world-folk music rocks, soothes and elevates the soul, and it doesn't let go. It is cool blue Canadian water infused with Finnish root extract, seasoned with sizzling Mexican spice and the contemplative serenity of the East.
“The album [What Is Your Dream?] is fantastic.” “It really is.” -- Enio Mascherin & Steve Ritchie, co-hosts, The Hundred Mile Music Show, CFOS Owen Sound
“Jarmo Jalava writes songs rich in whimsy and wonder. Think of Bruce Cockburn’s crisp melodicism and Daniel Lanois’s low-burn intensity….Jalava has edge, intelligence, heart and soul,” — Charles Foran, world music reviewer for The National Post.
“Warm, celestial sounds…mighty words…lovely music.” — The Peterborough Examiner.
Previous tours have taken Jalava across North America, and his music has received airplay in Canada on CBC Radio as well as in Europe on Finland's national radio service, YLE.
Jarmo often performs with his partner, best-selling author Alison Wearing. Together they weave heartfelt songs with transcendent and often hilarious stories of their somewhat nomadic lives. Alison Wearing is the multiple award-winning, best-selling author of Honeymoon In Purdah – an Iranian Journey, as well as a playwright, actor, singer and dancer. She is currently touring two musical, spoken-word and dance performances Giving Into Light and Confessions of a Fairy's Daughter at theatres and festivals across Canada (e.g., Toronto Fringe 2010, Atlantic Fringe 2010).
