biographical info
Cant's earliest work was as a co-founder of Winnipeg's Moment:Device, an artists' collective dedicated to extreme multimedia experimentation. Here he met Stef Caron, with whom he would play (as guitarist and bassist) in an industrial-techno-rock act ultimately known as Metha Mean; their second full-length CD, Unloved, was released in spring 2003. Having established a love of improvised music with M:D-related projects (including Suture, Man Does Not Become Wolf, and The Funky Chancellors Of Direct Power), he returned to similar, if less chaotic, experimentations with fellow Metha Mean member Pierre Desmarais as Tectonic Plates, who are preparing a CD release for winter of 2004. Following his love of noise art, pop songs, digital glitchiness, and lo-fi hiss and hum, JVSCant currently works with electronic and analog recording as he develops concurrent solo musical projects featuing songs, beats, and/or soundscapes. He also performs live solo improvisations as Cooper Satellite.
