biographical info

Raised on a small farm in rural Saskatchewan during tough economic times, J.J. grew up identifying closely with the under-dog out-law music with heros like Johnny Cash, Steve Earle and John Melancamp to name a few.

In 2008 Voss released his debut record entitled “ Hillbilly Storybook” and he has been hard at it playing shows throughout Canada and the U.S. taking his music to the people. Highlight shows include warming up for Johnny Reid, The RoadHammers along with 5 shows in Nashville, including a showcase spot opening for Raul Malo ( The Mavericks)

January of 2012  finds  J.J.  finishing up work on his sophomore album in Nashville  with music city icon Harry Stinson (Steve Earle, Martina McBride, Marty Stuart,Corb Lund) producing.   " Show 'em Who's Voss" will be released in Canada in April with the debut single “ It’s a Pride Thing” going to radio April 1st.

Voss is excited about the new songs and enthusiastic about getting out on the road to tour in support of the new record.

Tuesday night Troubadour is a Hit!

posted by J.J. Voss
t's my pleasure to report that Our "Tuesday Night Troubadour" at Bocados Restaurant has been a great success so far. We started doing the show back in June, and Myself along withJaysonBrinkworth, Ken Burton, Brian Warren and Brett Schinbein, John Kessler along the entire staff have worked real hard to get this show off the ground. Indie music is thriving these days, and the rootsy/stripped down approach is really connecting with music fans and drawing a good crowd. We've managed to attract sponsorship so far from Sask Music, and most recently The Big Rock Brewing Company...... which is greatly appreciated. If you haven't been down yet to experience " Tuesday Night Trourbadour" hosted by myself..... I can give you a brief explanation. We get started somewhere around 8:30 out on the deck ( weather permitting) I usually kick off the evening with a couple of my own tunes... and then open the floor to any and all artists who wanna get up and show case their material. There are no borders and no boundaries as far as genre is concerned.... It's about music not labels. We've had an interesting and diverse cross section of artists show up for our Jam including Miche' Martin, Ray Whitton ( of Saskatoon) Dave Taylor, Annette and Dave Lawlor, Mark Cesar (of Saskatoon) The Bystanders and Don Johnson ( you read that correctly) of Regina to name a few. We will be expanding the format in the coming months to include special guest appearances by touring troubadours who are passing through the Queen City. My first guest will be an appearance by Val Halla ( currently living in Tennessee ) Check out Val's music at http://www.valhallaonline.com/ I'd like to thank all the great people who have become regulars both as performers and as our audience down at Bocados..... The atmosphere is laid back and cofortable... (like a kitchen party) and the Food at Bocados is Incredible. We're doing it again tonight at 8 pm so come out early to get a table. My debut cd Hillbilly Storybook has been selling well, get your signed copy from my web store or else if you already have my CD, check out my line of clothing http://www.jjvoss.com/pages/merch.htm On another note, wanna thank everyone involved with the 2009 WCMA Festival in Brandon MB, this past week-end. It was organized very well and I met a ton of great people. Inide music is the coolest scene to be involved in, and the Indie attitude is inspiring! Cheers! J.J.
