biographical info
Jetplanes of Abraham are an indie rock band from Ottawa. The group's six members met while playing shows as members of their other bands and in March 2006 they started jamming together on weekends. After just a few weeks they realized they were onto something special and decided to promote this new band. The move quickly paid off, as Jetplanes played their first ever show opening for The Lovely Feathers and Duchess Says as part of Pop Montreal's Pop-Off tour. They used the buzz from that show to land a spot opening for The Most Serene Republic. Since those two shows, the band has headlined a pair of sold-out shows at Zaphod Beeblebrox, performed at the Horseshoe Tavern as part of The Edge 102.1's New Music 13th Anniversary showcase, played alongside bands like The Marble Index, The Ghost is Dancing, Spiral Beach and Henri Faberge and the Adorables, and earned rave reviews from everyone who's seen them. With their self-titled debut album, they're showing that all the attention is well-deserved. Each song sounds like the work of six people from wildly divergent backgrounds collaborating to create something that not only captures their influences, but goes beyond them into the realm of something altogether different. Essentially, imagine some blend of The Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, Tokyo Police Club and Broken Social Scene, and you'll begin to get an idea of what to expect from Jetplanes of Abraham. But listening to their album, you can tell they're a whole lot more.
